In order to provide this service:

SSEMS personnel have undergone extensive in-house and on-the-job training every new intake and yearly twice. This training includes operating Class specialized equipment and techniques. Experienced divers will be used in any repair jobs, involving Class surveyor or higher client representatives involved. Repairs are usually accomplished at a vessel’s scheduled stop without causing delay or interruption.

COFFERDAM INSTALLATIONS

SSEMS designs fabricate and installs cofferdam designs addressed to individual vessels & structures which allows afloat repairs to be carried out in an emergency. By fitting an external cofferdam, a dry environment is created to allow internal access by our affiliated coded welders.

This technique has received Class Approval as a PERMANENT repair, without imposing a Condition of class on the vessel.

HULL CLEANING & PROPELLER POLISH

Fuel saving is the major reason for making underwater hull cleaning an integral part of planned maintenance.
A buildup of marine fouling can lead to increased drag, resulting in a detrimental impact on a vessel’s hydrodynamic performance and hence the relationship between speed, power performance and fuel consumption are affected.

Fouling, particularly in the case of a prolific buildup of ‘hard shell fouling & thick sea growth’ like barnacles or tubeworm can cause friction, cavitation and erosion, frequently affecting the performance of sonars, speed logs and other hull mounted sensors, structures, sea-grids & propeller.

Cleaning Cart

SSEMS designed and fabricated its own cleaning kart which is a versatile, compact hull-cleaning machine, capable of removing mild to heavy hull fouling from a variety of coatings (including the new low surface energy coatings). Our cleaning kart is capable to deal with extreme marine growth without damaging any fragile surfaces. This is possible, due to an in-house programming system created to bring the cleaning brushes into gentle contact with the hull, where the pre-programmed system will run only on the fouling base, automatically moving away from the polished surfaces.

The system allows the right amount of pressure from the power pack tool to be delivered directly to the cleaning kart, avoiding damages to the hull & paint (if the paint is still serviceable). The kart was initially designed for cleaning laid up/arrested vessels where there is the absence of antifouling paint. This system can guarantee that vessels that have been laid up for even up to six months can be cleaned.

SUPER FINE POLISHING

There are 3 stages to be carried out for polishing of propeller:

Preparing the surface by removing all marine growth manually with scrappers and followed by polishing with Surface Conditioning Disc of Coarse Grade (Black). After all, growth removed, the disc on the Hydraulic Polisher will be replaced with a Medium Grade (Brown) ones and to polish the whole surface again to re-level the layers of smooth surface finish. Lastly, Disc of Super Fine Grade (Green) will be used for the final polishing.

The sole purpose of polishing a propeller underwater is to reduce the surface roughness & increase the propulsion speed to avoid high engine slips.
Our equipment provides a suction force on the propeller surface. To provide a constant layering of smoothness for the blades to cut through the water and provide a push on the knots. 355 to 365-grade grit to produce a surface finish of 0.5μ Ra.
